Dear Parents and Guardians, We are pleased to inform you that St. Clare Walker Middle School and Middlesex High School will host an important drug awareness presentation for students in grades 7 through 12 on Monday, November 4. The program, titled Silent No More, is a powerful initiative designed to educate students about the invisible dangers of opioids, other dangerous drugs, and current drug trends. The presentation is meant to inform and inspire, emphasizing the importance of prevention and awareness. Silent No More is a comprehensive presentation that includes: A powerful slideshow that sets the stage for the discussion. Heartfelt stories shared by family members who have lost loved ones to overdose, providing real-life insight into the tragic consequences of substance use disorder. Clips from the documentary Chasing the Dragon, a collaboration between the FBI and DEA, featuring interviews with inmates who have struggled with heroin addiction. A short video on fentanyl, explaining its dangers. Insights from a DEA Agent on current drug trends, the rise of counterfeit drugs, and the dangers of fentanyl, marijuana, and xylazine. A Federal Prosecutor who will share real-life cases showing how even one pill can be fatal. A short video on addiction, illustrating how it evolves and affects the brain. A presentation from Dr. Denise Lester, a specialist in addiction medicine, who will explain the neurobiological effects of drugs on the brain, particularly in young people. Finally, the presentation will end on a note of hope, as a recovery speaker shares their personal journey from substance use disorder to recovery, showing that while the road is difficult, recovery is possible. Silent No More is an eye-opening initiative aimed at educating students about the very real dangers of drug use, particularly opioids. The presentation has been highly praised for its relatable and impactful approach. We encourage you to speak with your child after the presentation to reinforce the message and help them process the information. There will also be an evening presentation the same day, November 4, for all parents, guardians, and community members at 6:30 pm at St. Clare Walker Middle School Auditorium. Please mark your calendars and come out for this important event. If you have any questions or concerns about the presentation, please contact your child’s principal. Thank you for your ongoing support of your child’s well-being and education. Sincerely, Dr. Tracy Seitz
