Grades 8-12 Student Assembly and Community Family Night
Monday, March 17, 2025
The National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is March 17-23, 2025. Middlesex County Public Schools will host an important presentation to begin the week on Monday, March 17th, featuring former NFL player Chris Sullivan and the poignant story of Taylor, aimed at educating students and families about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of mental wellness.
Students in grades 8-12 will have the opportunity to hear Sullivan's compelling journey during the school day. Sullivan, who played for the New England Patriots, will share his personal battle with anxiety and addiction, a stark contrast to his seemingly glamorous NFL career. His message emphasizes the importance of making healthy choices and developing coping mechanisms for mental health challenges.
Complementing Sullivan's story is the heart-wrenching narrative of Taylor, a young woman whose life was tragically cut short after a night of underage drinking. Her story, shared by her mother, serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of poor choices and the fragility of life.
Please contact your child’s principal, if you have any questions regarding this presentation.
MCPS will also host a Family/Community Night at 6:30 open to all Middlesex County residents. This evening session will allow families and community members to hear Sullivan's impactful message fostering open dialogue and shared understanding.
Registration for the evening event can be found here: https://bit.ly/SullivanMessageRegistration
MCPS hopes that by combining Sullivan's message of hope and resilience with the sobering reality of Taylor’s experience, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the risks associated with substance abuse and the importance of prioritizing mental health. This event is designed to empower our students to make informed decisions, build resilience, and seek support when needed.
The community is encouraged to attend the evening session to participate in this vital conversation.
